Toonie Tuesday Bake Sale
posted March 23, 2016

WOM's Toonie Tuesday Bake Sale raised over $1300! A huge thanks to bakers, teachers, staff and students for contributing to the bake sale. Your generosity is greatly appreciated!

About Toonie Tuesday, from the Education Foundation of Ottawa:
You can’t focus on schoolwork when the growl of your stomach is louder than the teacher’s voice. Without colouring pencils and paper, your homework goes unfinished. You’ll never be able to compete at the basketball regional tournament if you can’t get to the event. Children are falling behind in each and every day for reasons beyond their control. Without the basics, an education can seem impossible. For a child who lives in poverty in our city, $2 is the difference between nothing and something. It’s food on a plate or a notebook on a desk. It’s half the cost of a field trip to the museum: a price that seems low to most of us, but a barrier for so many in our community.

Minions Movie Night raised over $1000!

The Minions movie night on February 19th raised $1060!

Money raised will be used to assist and enhance student learning in the classroom.

Thank you to everyone who attended the evening, and thank you to everyone who volunteered their time to make the evening a success!

Support the Toonie Tuesday campaign!

A reminder that the Toonie Tuesday campaign runs until March 9th. Any toonies or other monetary donation you can send in with your child to support this campaign would be appreciated!

100% of the funds raised will go to the Students in Crisis Emergency Fund to provide food, clothing, medical, and other emergency assistance to students in the Ottawa area.

Wonderful World of WOM Presents: Minions!  The Movie!

Join us in the WOM 'theatre' (the gym) for dinner and a movie!  Movie starts at 6:30pm and doors open at 5:30pm to allow time to eat and socialize.  On the menu: pizza, popcorn, drinks and Minions' Bananas.

To reserve your seat, please complete the form available online and send it back to the school.  A hard copy of the form was also sent home with your child (or the youngest child in your family). Reservation requests, along with payment, must be received at the school no later than February 16th.

Term 2 Lunch orders begin week of February 1

A reminder that the Term 2 Lunch program begins this week.  If you have made changes to lunch orders for this term, please remind your child(ren).

The application period for a cross boundary transfer to another elementary school is from February 8 through February 19, 2016. Applications can be obtained from school office staff. Guidelines for the transfer process can be found on the OCDSB website and you may receive a hard copy here in the office.

The application period for Middle Immersion is from Tuesday, February 16 until Monday, February 22, 2016. Middle French Immersion in the OCDSB begins in grade 4. In grade 7 and 8, the program is up to 70 percent French and 30 percent English instruction.

Students promoted to grade 4 who are not already in French Immersion are eligible for enrolment in the Middle French Immersion program. Bridlewood Community Elementary School offers the MFI program (serving South Kanata) at Bridlewood Community Elementary School, and invite interested students and parents to join them on Thursday, February 18, 2016 from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. in their school library, for an information meeting. If you, as a parent/guardian of a student in grade 3, wish to learn more about the Middle French Immersion program at Bridlewood Community Elementary School, please join them on February 18th or contact them at the school (613- 591-3683).

If you have a student in grade 3 in the English Program this may be of interest to you.

Registration forms can be obtained from any school office.

Lost and Found Items

If your child is missing a water bottle or a clothing item, there's a good chance it's in one of the two Lost and Found bins!

The JK/SK bin is located in the foyer at the entrance to the JK cubby area.  The second bin is located between the library and gymnasium doors.

Each item is marked with a small piece of ribbon stapled to a tag. If a tag is not available, the ribbon is stapled in an inconspicuous location such as a seam. Hard items such as Tupperware and water bottles are marked with a piece of electrical tape.

Please check out the WOM School Council Facebook page for photos of the Lost and Found items in the two bins.  Please note that photos of the two bins are uploaded separately in two Facebook posts.
