The WOM School Council is an organization of parents who are interested in getting involved at W.O. Michell E.S., an elementary school in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. We hope to enrich the lives of the students through organizing special events, extra curricular activities, hot lunches, contributing funds to school sports and academic programs, staying current on issues affecting students at WOM, and conducting additional research as necessary. We also have a formal role in making parent opinions and recommendations known to the school administration and school board. We derive our authority from the Ontario Education Act.
The vision of the WOM School Council is to contribute to the process of education in a meaningful way by working with students, parents, teachers, the school administration, the Board, Board Trustees and the community in an advisory capacity to help ensure that the students of W.O. Mitchell have a safe and healthy learning environment and the best education possible so they may have the skills, knowledge and opportunities to attain their potential.
Memberships on school councils are open to all parents of children enrolled at the school, as well as community members, the school principal, teachers and other staff.
Our meetings are held the second Tuesday of every month at 7pm in the school library.
If you are interested in becoming involved in the Council, or have questions or ideas, we would love to here from you. Meetings are open to any parent wanting to attend, not just members, and you are encouraged to come out to the meetings and have your voice heard. In addition, you are also free to contact any member of the Council at anytime.
