This year, we are aligning our elections process with the Ontario Ministry of Education Guidelines for School Councils. Everyone is welcome! Here is the information you need to know; it’s as simple as 1-2-3.
1. The Positions
Council is composed of different groups. The first components are Parent/Guardian members and Non- Parent/Guardian members. If you are a Parent/Guardian of a student at WOM, then you are eligible for those positions. There are a wide variety of commitment levels available to suit your schedule. For a full list of the responsibilities of each position, please see the description of council positions.
-Members At Large (5-14 spots)
-Treasurer (1 spot)
-Secretary (1 spot)
-Vice-Chair (1 spot)
-Chair (1 spot)
*Note: The officer positions, (Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, Treasurer) can be split between individuals, but the spot only allows for 1 vote on a motion.
2. To Self-Nominate
If you wish to seek a voting position on School Council, you will need to fill in and submit a Self- Nomination form, by September 19, 2017. Forms can be printed at home from the School Council website, or you’ll find paper copies in the school office. The self-nomination forms will be submitted in the office.
3. Attend the meetings
Our first 2 meetings this year will occur in September. September 12, 2017 is our meet and greet and will cover urgent business and allow interested people to see what School Council is all about. September 26, 2017 will be the meeting where voting occurs. At this meeting, all Parents and Guardians who attend will receive a voting ballot to cast their vote for who should be the voting Parent-Guardian members of school council. The vote will only occur if we have more than 18 self-nominees. Once the Parent-Guardian members have been selected, they will fill the 4 officer positions from their group.
Finally, whether or not you are a voting member of School Council, you are heartily invited to attend any meetings you wish to. Everyone has an opportunity for input, and then the Council will vote on motions.
